Why Triot?
|
A Triot trike is different. Everything has been engineered from the ground up for a specific purpose, a trike purpose.
Far too often in the trike industry we see companies put together a trike from existing bicycle technology. While we recognize there is great technology in the bicycle industry, we don't build bikes--we build trikes! Great trikes! Please take a moment to explore below the great features and technologies of a Triot trike, many of which are so unique they are patented. |
What makes a Triot so special?
Frame Design
|
The Triot frame is made of aircraft-grade aluminum. It is specifically designed to be lightweight and extremely strong. The diamond-shaped tubes combined with the dual-tube "truss" design allow for smaller and lighter tubes without sacrificing frame strength. This design is much stronger than a traditional tube frame. It is able to flex just enough for comfort and control while maintaining its strength and performance.

Seat Design
|
The Triot seat is one of our customers' favorite features. The ergonomic carbon-fiber seat cradles your body while the air cushion eliminates the micro-vibrations of riding. The base of the seat is built to support you from side to side while the upper back allows you the freedom to move as needed for riding.

Suspension
|
Building a true full-suspension trike presents many challenges that you don't encounter with a traditional full-suspension bicycle. You have to approach it more like the suspension of a car than a bicycle. This is why a Triot trike is designed with independent a-arm suspension with up to 4" of travel on each of the front wheels. The suspension on the rear wheel is just enough to absorb the large impacts; too much suspension on the rear creates a "squishy" feel and "sloppy" handling of the trike.
The air shocks give you the ability to adjust the firmness of the suspension to your liking. Higher psi in the shocks will give you a sportier and stiffer feel, while reducing the psi will give you a softer feel. However, it's important you don't reduce the psi below about 70-80% of your body weight or you will essentially lose the benefit of the suspension. |
Steering
|
The carbon fiber handlebars and smooth steering linkage of a Triot give the rider full control of the trike at all times. A Triot is specifically designed for easy two-hand or one-hand control. The handlebars glide forward and backward in a natural motion. There is no need to unnaturally twist or move the handlebars side-to-side across your body.
Have you ever noticed how the inside wheel of a car turns at a tighter diameter than the outer wheel? This design is called Akermann steering geometry. It is important in trike design to avoid slippage of the tires when turning. As a rider you are able to maintain safe control of the trike, reduce cornering strain on the frame, and reduce wear on your tires. Another key feature of the steering design of a Triot trike is the stabilizing bar, which is necessary to create a safe and stable steering mechanism with suspension. This keeps the trike steady and true while riding, even at high speeds. |
Grips
|
Attention to detail is one of the hallmarks of Triot design. Even our grips are specifically designed, chosen, and installed for use on a trike. If you simply install a bicycle grip with bicycle brake levers and shifters, you end up with brakes you have to pull with your pinkie fingers and with wires and cables shooting up from the handlebar and creating an unsightly and annoying mess.
We use a variety of grips on our different trike models, from comfortable rubber grips to custom-made grips. Each grip is chosen and installed to achieve the optimal grip, brake orientation, and cable management for each Triot model. Not only does proper grip design look better, it increases braking control and safety, reduces the risk of damaging brake lines or shift cables, reduces sun-damage to the cable housings, and reduces the risk of getting a finger or hand dangerously caught in cables while riding. |
Brakes
|
Brakes are arguably the most important feature of any trike. It is important to have not only the ability to stop but to maintain control while stopping, especially during an emergency stop. All Triot trike models are equipped with hydraulic disc brakes with large 180mm brake rotors on all wheels. The front brakes are activated by a single brake lever and work in a balanced hydraulic system with custom mirrored calipers, eliminating the risk of unintentionally braking harder on one wheel. The rear wheel uses a full hydraulic disc brake.
In order for brakes to function safely it is important to keep them maintained. Triot trikes are designed to be easy to maintain. All brake pads can be replaced without having to lift the trike or take it to a mechanic. If necessary, the entire brake system can be easily removed for bleeding of the hydraulic fluid or other service. |
Drive Train
|
At the core of all Triot models is the unique enclosed chain. Made to be self-lubricating, "diamond" hard for long life and minimal stretch, and being protected from the elements, the Triot chain will last significantly longer than a typical bike chain.
The carbon belt drive in the rear gives you superior performance, wears longer, and is quieter than a normal chain. It doesn't require lubrication and doesn't stretch. All Triot trike models use the premium CDX line from Gates for high-mileage heavy duty applications. Not everyone rides for the same reason or in the same situations. This is why Triot offers a variety of high quality gear/shift options. Each Triot model comes with a rear hub/cassette specifically chosen for optimal performance:
