Safety is the foundational principle upon which the Triot was designed. You can feel secure riding a Triot, knowing it will perform as you need it to, whether you are enjoying a casual cruise along the trail or instantly swerving to avoid a collision.
Hydraulic Disc Brakes
Hydraulic disc brakes on all three wheels. Most recumbent trikes only have brakes on the front two wheels, each controlled independently, with no brakes on the rear wheel. Think about riding a typical bicycle with only front brakes or driving a car with only front brakes. Hydraulic braking on all wheels gives you the most control and safety when braking, especially in emergency situations.
Large brake rotors. Not all disc brakes are created equal. All three brakes use 180mm diameter rotors, which are much larger the typical disc brake rotor. This leads to greater stopping power with less grip force and improved heat dissipation. Oversized post-mount calipers. Our brake calipers mount on 5/8" thick "posts." The typical post size for brake calipers is less than 1/2". The increased size of post mounts gives our braking system much greater rigidity and control when stopping. Mirrored brake calipers. When bicycle disc brakes are installed on the two front wheels of a trike one caliper is oriented toward the top of the rotor and the other caliper is oriented toward the bottom of the rotor. This is because bicycle brake calipers are designed for a front and rear wheel arrangement, not side-by-side. Our brake calipers are designed for a trike and are mirrored, meaning both calipers are located at the top of the rotor where they should be. This leads to less brake steer and more control when stopping as well as much easier service of the calipers and brake pads. |
Akermann Steering
When turning a trike, or a car, the inside wheel needs to turn in a sharper circle than the outer wheel in order to maintain traction. The technology used to make this happen is called Akermann Steering. Triot uses akermann steering to maintain perfect control while turning; no wheels slipping or losing traction in the turn. As a rider you are able to maintain safe control of the trike, reduce cornering strain on the frame, and reduce wear on your tires.

Full Suspension
Well-designed suspension can be the difference between safe performance and disaster. Suspension adds to a comfortable ride but more importantly it keeps your wheels on the ground. Rarely do we ride on perfectly smooth bike paths or roads. It seems when riding we always find the bumps, rocks, roots, and other debris, all trying to disrupt our safe ride. The precisely designed suspension of each wheel on a Triot trike keeps each wheel safely in contact with the road.

Enclosed Chain
Look closely. The chain is completely enclosed in the doube-diamond truss frame of the Triot. This means no more grease on your legs, but more importantly, it means nothing can damage or jam your chain while riding. You no longer need to worry about debris getting caught in the chain as your ride or anything causing a failure in your chain.
